School and Library Visits

As an author of children's books, I regularly assist with Literacy (and occasionally Numeracy) in schools inmy local area (Wokingham and Bracknell in Berkshire). I have also run children's sessions at local libraries.

I think it is really important to pass on an enthusiasm for reading and creative writing to the nextgeneration. Children these days have too many distractions, usually of the electronic kind, and there is a real danger that the written word, as an art form, may fall into decline.

School visits are also rewarding for me. They help me keep in touch with my target audience. What children oftoday talk about and how they talk about it; what interests them; what is relevant to their lives; what makesthem laugh - these are all vital pieces of information to a children's author.

For these reasons, I would be delighted to host a session at your school or library. Below are some ideas fromsessions I have run in the past. Click on any item for more information. Alternatively, you may have an idea of your own that you wish to discuss.

I am a firm believer that learning should be fun so all the above sessions would be highly interactive, withthe opportunity for the students to draw their own conclusions, share ideas and ask questions.

Please note also that I have an enhanced DBS certificate for working with young people.

As a guideline, I would normally charge around £60 per half day, or £100; for a full day. Singlesessions slightly less. Half term or full term courses of one hour sessions work out at around £20 per hour.Travelling expenses only charged if significant. Please contact me to discuss your individual requirements.
